It had been a year and some change since Virti Le'shahn had accepted an officers position in the Resistance. A whole year of fighting, flying and general mayhem. He sometimes found it strange that he had survived so many battles when others had not. Their resources were limited, their ammunition was short and the number of people they had to help fight against the Empire was growing smaller by the day.
Yet for some reason, that seemed to spur him forward and drive him even harder. There were so few exceptional soldiers nowadays that he had to stay alive. It was an obligation more than a duty at this point. It was a fact, the Empire needed to be stopped. But without proper funding and resources, there wasn't going to be much of a fight. The individual cells of the Resistance were getting more and more bold, but they still held the equivalent of a blaster pistol when trying to take down Star Destroyers. They just didn't have the firepower. They needed more weapons, and people to use them. But when morale was low, who wanted to go and punch the Imperials in the nose? And morale was low.
The razing of Endor for no apparent reason had been a real kick in the unmentionables for a lot of resistance personnel. For most, Endor had been an icon, a beacon of defiance in the face of adversity. That the Imperials would light the planet on fire and watch it burn for their own ego, years after their initial defeat, was more than many could take.
Virti on the other hand, had applied to become an officer the very next day. He was tired of seeing innocent beings slaughtered all over the galaxy and being forced to watch. Tired of having to sit back and be subjected to the propaganda spewing out of the HNE anchors about how good the Empire was for the galaxy. "Sign up today" they said. Do your duty.
Vee was going to do his duty all right.
For a while now, he'd been trying to track down leads on potential sympathizers to their cause who were well enough connected to get them war making materials. It had been an arduous search, for most people didn't want to pop up on the Empire's radar at all. They knew the penalty of giving to the enemy. Endor was still a shining example of that. The fires were still blazing two weeks later. But he'd finally made a deal with someone whom he felt he could trust, and when the deal was made, he'd taken on the monumental task of rebuilding not just weapons;
But also hope.
Their people needed a win. Their fighters needed a symbol to rally behind. For too long they had been fighting simply for survival. It was time to change that.
Vee was sitting at his favorite prefab table right at the edge of the shielded barrier protecting the main Resistance base on Scarif from the irradiated wastes of the rest of the planet. He had set the table up himself a few weeks ago. It was conspicuously out of place for the rest of the base. Just a random round table with some simple chairs around it, a couple dozen meters from the edge of the energy shield. Already, he was sitting with three other men he'd picked out. He was just waiting on the rest to show up before starting his briefing. It was going to be a monumental day. It was a day that was going to inspire hope in the Rebellion. A day that would instill fear into the Empire. Vee was going to build a sword and jam it into the heart of the Empire every chance he got.
Today, was the day that Virti Le'shahn rebuilt Rogue Squadron.
