Pride. It wasn't a feeling Tex should have felt at a time like this, she knew. Pride. Proud of what? That the Rebel Alliance was gone? That the Jedi Order had suffered it's largest setback since the days? Obviously not. But she was proud to see that despite the suffering, despite the death, despite the galaxy facing its darkest time since the dawn of the Empire, people hadn't lost hope. People were still coming together, ready to fight, despite having nearly everything taken from them.
Part of Tex found herself wondering if this was what it was like, back at the start of the Rebellion. That first meeting that led to the force that eventually defied the Empire and destroyed their greatest weapons, overthrew their Emperor, and until now had been a constant thorn in their side. Did they begin like this? A small group of people either too foolish or too brave to know when they were beaten, a group of people ready to fight back with no weapons, no ships and no real plan?
'This' entailed a meeting of everybody who wanted to bring the fight back to the Empire, coming together in the ruins of an old Imperial Base on the long forgotten world of Scarif. Once home to a vast Imperial archive, and once the site of the Rebellion's first great victory over the Empire, it was as much a practical choice as a symbolic one. The Empire had turned their Death Star on their own base, destroying it utterly, to try and prevent the Rebellion escaping with the plans, and abandoned the world ever since. It was the last place they'd ever think to look for a newly formed Resistance base, on a forgotten world that had once belonged to them.
Better yet, it was an abandoned world. The tropical climate was beautiful, but it had no citizens, outside of the natural creatures and fauna. After the devastation that came to Naboo, Tex knew the Jedi leadership were keen to stay away from risking civilian casualties, and Tex couldn't fault them for it. She felt the same way. As long as they flew under the Rebel Firebird, they were a target for the Empire. At least here, there was no risk.
And besides, the world was beautiful. There was something almost symbolic about being able to walk down on the beach and watch the sunrise, just a stone's throw away from the ruined base they were currently operating out of, once an Imperial bunker and the only facility still standing in any form after the devastation unleashed upon the planet. There was a lot of hard work to do in fixing it up and getting things up and running, and they'd need an entirely new computer system, but Tex wasn't afraid of hard work. In fact, she thought it might do her some good, it had been too long since she'd used her muscles for anything outside of the gym she never actually managed to attend half as often as she should.
Her arms still ached a little from the one bit of work she had done since they had taken the bunker. Lifting up an old metal Alliance Starbird over the Imperial signal in the bunker and welding it there, with the help of a few others. If this was going to be their base of operations, they weren't going to operate for a second longer with the Imperial logo looming down on them.
She looked over at the gathered group over what would soon be the central computer console, a flat screen for projecting any data they needed, but right now was a powerless piece of junk. They were an odd group, no doubt, a literal rag-tag band of people willing to stand against the Empire, but she was proud of each and every one of them.
"So, this is us." She said, after a pause. Probably not the best first words, but for once, she wasn't sure what to say. "The Empire thinks we're beaten. They think the Rebellion is crushed and the Jedi have fled in to the night. Today is the day we decide otherwise. We are few. Our resources are low. But the Empire can never take from us our spirit, our willingness to fight, or our knowledge that we are right." She paused again, and her lekku subtly twitched, a sigh of knowing they seemed like they were on the verge of defeat. "I know it can seem hopeless. I know some of you stand here today thinking we're all going to die. Thinking that there's absolutely no way that just we alone can defeat an endless Empire. But we are not alone. I believe that." She stated firmly, her eyes passionate. "The galaxy wants the Empire gone as much as we do! Today we light the fire that will burn the Empire to ashes. Today we start the plan to fight back. We will bloody the Empire's nose. We will hurt them in small ways. And as we do, more people will join our cause. Our numbers will grow."
"And one day, not long from now, we will celebrate their downfall!" She said with all the determination she could muster. And then she paused, and allowed herself a smile, even if it was a weary one.
"That's the pep talk. Now for the practicality. We need to send a message, and we need to send one quickly, to the people of the galaxy, that we are still here. That we are still fighting. We need to make a formal declaration of Resistance to the galaxy at large. And that means we need a target. We need to hurt the Empire in a way they don't expect." She outlined. "I have my own plan, but this is where we need to work together. So, I'm open to suggestions..."
