While this isn't the usual sort of thing I post about when it comes to news, cool science things and the like. I figured with plenty of us here falling into the geek or nerd category it might be of interest.
Anyway, I ran into this through my usual morning routine of browsing about a dozen or so science sites (I'm a nerd I know ) I happened to run across Experiement.com
It's crowd funding for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics research and projects. I happened to find an article on it, where three junior high girls raised the funds to develop a new plant growth system for astronauts, and to get it sent to the international space station for testing. Which is awesome that such young women got together to do this, since growing food in space is still an incredibly difficult task.
I know it's a bit geeky of me to post this and be excited about it, but it makes bright ideas from all sorts of folks possible without the backing of an organization like NASA, or large research universities. Which makes the nerdy me all kinds of happy.
Anyway, if anyone is interested feel free to check it out. There's a lot of cool stuff on there to look at. And if you are so inclined find a project to support.
